On November 2nd, 2017 “The Sky is Not the Limit: Breaking the Color Barrier” exhibit opened at the Delta Flight Museum. Exhibits Manager, Tim Frilingos, shared that the idea for the exhibit spawned from a recommendation that had been given by Delta Flight Museum volunteers/Retired employees, Andrea Jordan (retired Delta Air Lines Flight Attendant) and Captain John Bailey (retired Delta Air Lines Pilot). The two suggested that there would be great potential in developing a museum spotlight on Delta Air Line’s first African-American pilot, Samuel Graddy.
Through his research, Frilingos found that Graddy’s story could be presented alongside other African-American pilots who currently or have worked for the airline. This resulted in him incorporating the stories of Captain Dana Nelson, Captain John Bailey, and Captain Stephanie Johnson.
This temporary exhibit will be open to the public until March 2018. Check the museum’s website for hours and additional information: http://www.deltamuseum.org/
